Cook

  • Enlist residents in recommending menu selections and preparing corresponding food orders in accordance with their diverse cultures and ethnic preferences.
  • Safe and sanitary handling and storage of  food in accordance with New York State and New York City Department of Health guidelines
  • Responsibility for maintaining kitchen appliances and  food preparation equipment and an adequate inventory of serving equipment and supplies
  • Report inoperable and/or faulty equipment immediately to residence supervisor
  • Responsible for general supervision of kitchen area, including overall cleanliness
  • Plan for, and prepare up to, three meals per day at multiple sites in  accordance with residence types and meal service specifications
  • Collaborate with Program Director/designee in submitting weekly food orders that are within each program’s budgetary limits
  • Elicit resident food preferences by conducting food tastings and responding to consumer satisfaction queries regarding menu offerings
  • Prepare low-fat, salt-free, vegetarian and soft meal options to meet special dietary and medically prescribed needs of residents.
  • Regular attendance in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Program Director or designees.   

 Additional Job Functions May Include: 

  • Teaching residents basic nutrition, preparation of simple meals and basic sanitary food handling and storage.
